1. The Place

The opening “Place” post is the longest, but broken up topically. I recommend the first page because it gives quick background on the deer and the place. The geopolitical and hydrological sections are probably of most interest to people who know or have an interest in the area. The section on how the deer use the property lays out in more detail the setting in which all the deer encounters occur. It’s probably at least worth a skim of the photos and videos of that section. Link to the start of the post is above. Link to different sections, below.

  • Quick Intro to the Deer and the Place
  • The Geopolitical Place (built environment, GMU, range)
  • The Hydrological Place (the unique river corridor setting, also a section on flood, heat, and fire)
  • How the Deer Use the Place (for shelter and bedding, browsing and food)
    • The Back Yard and the Grape Vines
    • The Front Yard
    • The Garden and the South Field (includes a section on Permeable Fencing)
    • The West Path, the Paddocks, and the Patio

3. A Fawn Is Born (3-legged doe’s younger daughter’s fawn)

June and July 2022 – A doe that’s probably the three-legged does’ daughter brings a day old fawn to the property and raises it here for about five weeks.

4. Newcomers! (3-legged doe’s older daughter brings 2 fawns to property)

July 2022 – A different doe brings twin fawns to the property and they “live” here into October.

5.  The O.G. Returns (Summer / Fall 2022)

Pi returns and for a couple months, two does and their fawns are here.
